Great Start to a series

Hunter and Seed gives a story about our world...or worlds, that exist and the conflict that exists in them. Without giving away too much of the plot, Saul, our main protagonist, and his sidekick Olivia, fight against forces that seek to create their own world, and Saul must stop them before it is too late. To say that the main character is completely selfless would be saying a lie; the author creates him as a flawed, almost sour hero, capable of great things but at the same time, in a position where his power is quite limited. The same could be said of the other characters in the book; flawed, no less capable, but flawed indeed. The lush descriptions of cities, flight (and how it works in this universe), and the fight scenes all drew me in to this story. The vivid imagery of worlds that are unlike our own, and the conflict that exists not only between the two conflicting ideologies but the characters themselves make for a great start to a series, and left me waiting for more. 5/5

Great new world

I was really impressed by this novel. Good world building, good character development. I particularly enjoyed the use of words specific to the world without definition--that sustained the sense that we were in the world and expected to know what these things were. I look forward to the next novel in the series. I don't want to insert any spoilers, so I am keeping this review non-specific, but I would recommend it--it is a fast-paced novel with an interesting premise.

About the Author
Marianne Schneider Corey is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California and a National Certified Counselor. She received her master's degree in marriage, family, and child counseling from Chapman College. She is a Fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work and was the recipient of this organization's Eminent Career Award in 2001. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Mental Health Counselors Association in 2011, and is a member of that organization. She also holds memberships in the American Counseling Association, the American Group Psychotherapy Association, the Association for Specialists in Group Work, the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Western Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. In the past 40 years, Marianne Schneider Corey and Jerry Corey have presented workshops in group counseling for mental health professionals at many universities in the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, England, and Ireland. In addition to GROUPS: PROCESS AND PRACTICE, Marianne has coauthored the following books, all with Cengage Learning: I NEVER KNEW I HAD A CHOICE, 11th Edition (2018, with Gerald Corey and Michelle Muratori); BECOMING A HELPER, 7th Edition (2016, with Gerald Corey); ISSUES AND ETHICS IN THE HELPING PROFESSIONS, 9th Edition (2015, with Gerald Corey, Cindy Corey, and Patrick Callanan); and GROUP TECHNIQUES, 4th Edition (2015, with Gerald Corey, Patrick Callanan, and Michael Russell).

Gerald Corey is Professor Emeritus of Human Services and Counseling at California State University at Fullerton. He received his doctorate in counseling from the University of Southern California. He is a Diplomate in Counseling Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology; a licensed psychologist; and a National Certified Counselor. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 17, Counseling Psychology; and Division 49, Group Psychotherapy); a Fellow of the American Counseling Association; and a Fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work. Both Jerry and Marianne Corey received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Mental Health Counselors Association in 2011, and both also received the Eminent Career Award from ASGW in 2001. Dr. Jerry Corey was given the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from California State University at Fullerton in 1991. He regularly teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in group counseling and ethics in counseling. He is the author or coauthor of 15 textbooks in counseling currently in print, along with more than 60 journal articles and book chapters.

One for Your Reference Shelf

It's been a while since I read a textbook for a class, so maybe things have changed everywhere. In my past, most textbooks were rather hard to get into, packed with technical terms and somewhat plodding. I find (am reading now) Becoming a Helper a densely packed, user-friendly textbook that provides lots of case examples to illustrate points. It will surely become a well-used reference as I progress in my counselor training. This is my first Corey and Corey book, but will certainly not be the last. For the neophyte counselor, or helper as they term it, this is a necessary opener.

All about EDTA suppositories.

Not what I expected at all, but good information. Not a compendium of different detox methodologies. It's all about EDTA suppositories, that's it. I was not aware of this new lower cost, more convenient method of serious EDTA detoxification. It is much more doable than the IV method so I was happy to learn about it. If you want a cheaper, easier, and over-the-counter available EDTA detox experience this book will clue you in. If you want an overview of various detoxification methods choose another book.

Informative, but not a stand-alone text

I purchased this book for my ENGM400: Mechanical Engineering Design class. I gained a lot from that class, but that was LARGELY due to a very experienced professor with excellent presentation abilities. This textbook is filled with useful information, but without a professional to explain how to use many of the concepts presented, it is nearly useless. Until you have been taught the purpose of various tables and charts, and guided through the methods of analyzing many of the problems contained inside, this book will only confuse you.

The book does provide many excellent examples, but unfortunately some of these are severely lacking in explanation, leaving you to puzzle over WHY the authors chose to solve problems the way they did; other problem types are completely missing a corresponding example and are just as confusing.

Obviously, if this textbook is a requirement for your class, reading this review won't persuade you not to buy it. To be honest, I would actually recommend buying it rather than borrowing or leasing, because once you have been instructed in its use it has a ton of helpful information and I have been using it for reference at my place of employment. However, don't expect to pick it up as something to read for knowledge without a course to accompany it.

Shigley's is a go to text for mechanical engineers (and rightfully so). It contains a TON of incredibly useful information. And thankfully it does a decent job of explaining the material. I had two issues with it. First, it is so dense and not easy to read. Of course it's hard material but the authors made no attempts to make it a lighter read. Second, it fails to use units at times. This happened both in example problems and in equations. Sometimes it would give two different equations: one for us and one for SI, but you had to check carefully to make sure you're putting in the right units.

Best Book Thus Far In Mechanical Engineering!

This is probably one of the best Mechanical Engineering books that I have ever purchased. This is definitely a book you want on your bookshelf for possible later use. This book essentially allows you to teach yourself this class (hoping that's not the case), but is still one of the hardest classes with ME's. Buy it here and not at the bookstore to save a little money.

Grade 1-3-- Spring has sprung, so two old friends are off to the garden--Festus with carrots, potatoes, peas, and beans to plant and his kinetic cat Mercury with a meatball ("How do you know they won't grow if you haven't tried them?"). Unfortunately, the newly dug garden suddenly becomes, in succession, a hunting ground for the chickens, an attractive wallow for a wandering pig, and a place to hang out for stray cattle. Rousting them out takes some ingenuity, a commodity that Festus and his pal have in abundance. The cartoon illustrations for this madcap tale are littered with small, sly details, from curtains and other homey touches in the hen roost, to scattered, unidentifiable peanut-sized onlookers. Great book

This is a really great book. Very entertaining. Good for kids and adults alike. I highly recommend it, but I believe it's out of print.

Wonderful and Imaginative Book for everyone's enjoyment

This book is a beautifully drawn, well written story that everyone can enjoy. The pictures are fun, and free-flowing with lots of add-ins that children and adults like to find. The story is well written and does have a point, which is always nice in a children's book. The basic idea of this book is for Festus to plant his potato garden, the trouble he has, whom is to really blame and how to get out of the festuring problems. His cat Mercury gives it a light-hearted merry feel.

The reason this book and the rest of the series are hard to find is because is was published through a self-pulishing firm. That means he paid to have it printed. I would highly recommend it to parents, I do feel that the continuing enjoyment my son (4.5) gets from them and that I still enjoy reading them, is worth the price (at least the ones priced around $30.00).

On a side note, if you are a fan of Bill Peet, you will enjoy this series, while not being similar necessarily in style or story-telling, the essence of work is.

Mary Dobson is a graduate of Oxford University, where she is also an honorary member of Green College, and a Research Associate of the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at University College, London. In addition to her career as an author of books about medical history, she is an expert in the history of tropical and infectious diseases, with a particular interest in the relationships between disease and environment. Dobson lives in London.

Informative, readable history of medicine

This is an interesting and informative history of medicine from ancient times to the present, with numerous illustrations that complement the text very well. The book does a good job of providing an overview of the significant persons and events associated with the history of medicine, and gives a balanced picture of the successes and failures of medicine throughout history. The book has a two-page time line of medical history that summaries key periods and events in medical history, as well as a brief section that identifies additional publications that can be pursued by readers interested in medical history.

The book is written by a historian, in a very readable style that is suitable for the general public and does not require a reader to have any particular knowledge or training in medicine or medical history. I strongly recommend the book to anyone interested in an introduction to the history of medicine. Also, this would be a good reference book for libraries other than those with a medical school. Readers interested in a detailed or technical history of medicine should look at other books.
