DR. P.M. FORNI is an award-winning professor of Italian Literature at Johns Hopkins University. In 2000 he founded The Civility Initiative at Johns Hopkins and over the years has continued to teach courses on the theory and history of manners. The New Standard in EM Procedures

This book is extremely detailed and has great illustrations. I compared this book for many hours to Roberts & Hedges (R&H) 4th ed and this book blows it away. The entire procedure is fully explained (as in both books), but this book shows you numerous different locations and ways of getting the same procedure done. This seems to lack in R&H. Also, the illustrations are great. R&H uses mainly black and white photos from the 1970's/80's where the person was not even using gloves and there is a footnote in every picture to use gloves. I think R&H needs to use new updated pictures if they want to even compete with this book. The increased use of color, great illustrations with key landmarks, numerous charts, and ease of explanation make this book essential in any emergency physician's library.

Make sure you get the 3rd edition! (or later)

- I used to have the previous edition of this Dictionary (2nd ed., 1998) and would consult it only sporadically. Now that I purchased the 3rd edition, I usually read at least one definition per day. Call me superficial, but I find this new edition much more appealing!

- What has changed:
*Illustrations! You'll find them about once every 5 pages or so. I think the authors should have featured more illustrations/photographs, but the ones you find in the text are not gratuitous (they really give you a better understanding of the definition).
*On a lighter note, my previous edition was in Portuguese (I am a Brazilian monkey). My present one (3rd ed, 2007) is the original American English version, and I think it reads better. I can only conclude that translating dictionaries is a dangerous task.
*Superior paper quality (glossy-more suitable for viewing illustrations), pages have a prettier design.
*Anatomical charts in the appendix are more organized and looking sharper.
*New definitions (not many, though).

- I kindly disagree with the user who mentioned Stedman's Medical Dictionary as a better option. Sure, Stedman's definitions are more authoritative, but I took two definitions (namely, abscess and anemia) for comparison and don't think one would be at much loss by going with Saunders Vet Dictionary. Plus, there are many important references to veterinary species in this Dictionary (associating common diseases, breed predispositions etc.), and that is something one will not find in Stedman's.

- I like this text better than Black's Student Veterinary Dictionary (Black's Veterinary Dictionary). Black's is not a bad Dictionary, in fact many of its definitions are longer (two paragraphs or more) and really comprehensive. However, it's not nearly as complete as Saunders Vet Dictionary (sometimes I can't find very simple terms in Black's, no mention to the more specific definitions which are lacking). Also, I feel there is a tendency in Black's to emphasize large animal species, sometimes not acknowledging the very existence of small animals/zoo species/exotics/myself. The horse illustration on the cover reflects this bias very well.

Saunder's Vet Dictionary 3rd Ed.

Great definitions: very complete, concise, and understandable. Clear diagrams and photos illustrated some definitions. Every word I have looked up has been included. Very helpful tables in the appendix section listing all the muscles, nerves, vessels and more (complete with origin and insertion of each muscle).

The only frustration I had with this dictionary is that it is HUGE! Other reviews claimed it was handy and portable, but I have to leave it at home since there is no way it will fit in my backpack with my other textbooks and laptop. Dimensions: 9 x 7.5 x 3 inches, about 3-4 lbs.

Overall, great dictionary, quite large. I've used it almost every day since I got it and would highly recommend it.

My go-to dictionary every time.

I've not even owned this dictionary for a month, but it already is so constantly out of the book shelf that I don't bother putting it back again after use. It is so helpful to me as a student. I of course use it for looking up unfamiliar terms, but there are also extensive charts listing reference ranges from heart rate and body temperature to chemistry panel results and CBCs, for a wide variety of species. It IS big though; some other reviews have said it's easy to carry because of its small size. I have not found that to be true. It's thick and it's heavy, despite its soft cover, but it IS a dictionary - and a medical one at that - so what do you expect? In all honesty, its large size attests to how thorough its information is. I love this dictionary and I know I will be using it for the rest of my life.

Still fresh and relevant today

I have read this book many years ago, but it wasn't the first time I heard of a grape cure. Ancient Greeks used it, it is still used in Germany and Austria, I experienced it in Tyrol, for instance, where they have wonderful grapes.
I've been doing small grape cures every year, when the grape season comes. I don't suffer from anything in particular, I do it as a regular detox. I feel wonderful, energetic and in a good mood; my skin becomes smooth and vibrant, every single pimple is gone, evacuation is normalized and I shed some unwanted weight too. I've never had any side effects, even when using it for two weeks, which is my maximum. You just have to be careful not to overeat, grapes are so delicious!
I know nothing about it curing cancer, but in healthy people (who don't suffer from diabetes or such)who have minor little problems a grape cure can only be beneficial.
There are people who wait for something to be "scientifically proved" to endorse it, without listening to the thousands of people testifying that it works. Yes, it's like homeopathy. It cannot be proven why it works, but it works anyway. Moreover, the book is cheap (especially the 1971 edition, still to be found if you search a bit on the Web), so you are not risking anything. (By the way, if you go to fruitarian com you will find the method outlined without purchasing the book). It's much better than many costly programs with pills and chemicals you know nothing about. At least this is a natural food. You are certainly not risking malnutrition if you only do it for a week or two, and you can also go on working normally, as the sugars in the grapes give you a lot of energy.
I'm not saying all M.D.s are in bad faith: there are many who sincerely believe this is quackery: because of their frameset they are not ready to accept anything they didn't learn in medical school. However, I also feel the suspicion and slander from the part of some medical people come less from real conviction and more from the fact that if all people adopted natural cures they'd be out of a job.

Nature's cancer cure....

I absolutely loved and believed this woman. I tried the grape cure just as a cleansing and it blew me away. I have never felt healthier. People are too much into traditional medicine. I really believe that this diet could cure cancer. What happened to me was astounding. It totally cleaned my intestines and colon.

In 1992, my doctor told me that I would have to endure another 'set' of Silver Nitrate treatments for my bladder problem. (It was not cancer.) The first 'set' of six treatments and the second 'set' of eight treatments had not worked. My bladder condition was getting worse. These treatments were very painful, so I refused to have any more done. My stepmother suggested I go to a health food store to see if they had any ideas on what I could do naturally to cure my bladder problems. They suggested I read The Grape Cure. After reading it, I sent it to my stepmother. She advised that I carefully wash the grapes and not stay on the diet for too long, but since I did not have diabetes there shouldn't be anything in grapes that would harm me for a short period even though they are high in sugar. I followed the instructions in the book, peeling the grapes in the beginning and never eating over a certain amount. For nearly 3 months, I ate nothing but grapes. I have never had trouble with my bladder since. I felt great and even lost 40 pounds. Although I know this book isn't for everyone, I do know that it worked for me. Eating nothing but grapes for so long may not be a good idea for everyone, but it did cure me. I wonder if the doctor that so vehemently criticized this book has actually tried it.
