Examining how constraints on eating and feeding translate to the uneven distribution of life chances across borders and how “food security” comes to dominate national policy in the United States, this book argues for understanding women’s relations to these processes as inherently biopolitical.

A brilliant and innovative book linking hunger politics and migration studies. This book is both theoretically rigorous and full of rich ethnographic detail that give Carney's strong arguments a truly human dimension. Highly recommended for scholars studying food and nutrition, as well as migration. It's accessible enough to use in an upper-division undergraduate course.
