Beneath the surface of Nina Holt's perfect marriage lurks a life of terror inflicted upon her by her politically powerful husband, Michael, and his brother, Greg, a sadistic detective. For over a decade, they have managed to keep Nina imprisoned, using her to satisfy their every whim. Worse still, the only light in her life - her nine-year-old son, Sam - considers Michael a hero. When Sam imitates Michael's violence by lashing out at her, Nina knows it's time for both of them to escape before Sam truly turns into the monster Michael is grooming him to become.

After Nina crashes her car in her haste to escape, kind motorist Case Herder offers her help. Unaware that he has his own plans for her, Nina accepts, igniting a deadly game of cat and mouse as they flee across Tasmania with Sam. As Michael and Greg relentlessly hunt them down to Cradle Mountain, Nina finds herself with nowhere left to run. Cornered, she has no choice but to face evil head-on.

Brutal and graphic but a great read
By IndieHeart
First off -- this book does not pull punches with the graphic content or "bad language". Scenes of violence and sexual abuse of women are graphically depicted. If this kind of content is upsetting for you, you don't want to read it.

That said, this is the story of a woman (Nina) trapped in an extremely abusive marriage who finds the courage to run away when her 9 year old son begins to be exactly like his father. Her husband, the Tasmanian Premier, and his equally psychopathic brother, a powerful member of the police force, have been abusing her physically and sexually for years. She receives some unexpected help in her efforts when a man who believes the evil psycho brother murdered his wife offers to help her. He needs her help to find out the truth about his wife. Of course, he doesn't tell her that right away, so his motives aren't entirely pure.

I liked the author's writing style: the book was easy to read and had good flow without being simplistic. The author did a great job with the psychological motivations of each of the characters, and the situations and people felt real, which makes this book top notch.

At times the relationship between Nina and Case got a little too romance-y for me. They were, after all, hiding out hoping not be killed which definitely wouldn't make me feel amorous. However, I liked that the book did not shift full focus to that relationship and instead remained with Nina's growth, increasing courage and strength, and her efforts to heal the emotional damage done to her son because the author really had me pulling for Nina learning how to make it on her own.

A note for American readers -- the author is Australian, so you will see British spellings such as "tyres" for "tires" and "mould" for "mold". These are not typos! There are also a few Aussie slang words but you should be able to pick those up from context.

I recieved this book for free in exchange for my honest review.

A disturbingly, well-crafted thriller!
By M.Albert
Ms Daniels delivers a cleverly-crafted and skilfully executed psychological thriller - ending each chapter with a cliff-hanger that catapults the reader further into the next chapter. Saved from a life on the streets - beautiful Nina Holt has it all… trophy wife of the state premier… adored by her nine year old son. On the surface, a perfect life… but nothing could be further from the truth. Psychologically disturbed and affected by his twisted childhood, Michael doles out physical and psychological abuse on a daily basis, making Nina a prisoner in her own home. As if that wasn't despicable enough, she must suffer being raped by her diabolical brother-in-law Greg… consequently delivering a further blow to Nina's fragile state of mind and any chance of escape. To top it off, Michael grooms their son to abuse Nina too, drawing her further into his control. The reader can't help but root for Nina AND hope against hope she'll escape her living hell.

(I was provided a copy of this book for review; the opinions expressed here are my own).

Hard to put down.
By Susannah St Clair Foxy Loxy
This book is GREAT. Dark, yes, almost what we in the States call "soft porn" Obviously not for youngsters (Although they probably know more than the adults now a days!) . It RACES.. it's long and yet, doesn't seem to be. Hard to put down. Good characters and the author gives them all the background they need to be who you see on the page. The flow of the narrative is amazing. It never drops or drifts into something that doesn't move the story along. She doesn't miss a beat when your characters "do" something, as in "turned and picked up the keys" or " closed and locked the door" Nothing is left out of the narrative yet it is still fast paced. Amazing. I did question the fact that someone could be "caught" like our female character Nina is but then I also remembered how often just such a thing has happened over and over again here in the "states". Women being held for years.. producing children. Horrifying things. So the story is quite plausible. Especially as the location is in an area not easy to escape with two "upright" citizens being her captor's. The story is extremely well written but to me, but the best part is the flow.. it moves like a racing river, never letting any extraneous plots, get in the way of the story. (Which I see LOTS of in most the books sent to me from new authors.) I am excited to see her next effort.
